Widely regarded as a vanguard for the evolution of Jazz in Canada, Toronto’s own BROWNTASAURAS RECORDS presents three of its most dynamic and explosive electric-jazz ensembles: BROWNMAN ELECTRYC TRIO, SNAGGLE & MODUS FACTOR for an evening of intensely funkified music. The label, formed in 2009 by acclaimed jazz trumpet player BROWNMAN ALI, was initially created as a home for the 8 group he leads. In 2015 he opened the doors to other groups he performs with being signed in an attempt to help catalyze the creation of new jazz art. Now the label is home to a myriad of envelope pushing band-leaders, all of whom feature Brownman in their ensembles.
From the improvisational bedlam of Modus Factor, to the highly diverse compositional odysseys of Snaggle, to the visceral power of the Brownman Electryc Trio, the Browntasauras Presents: will give each ensemble the opportunity to showcase their own unique sounds. Then — as the night progresses — audiences will start to see Browntasauras musicians all guesting in other ensembles. Expect to see the Modus bass player with the Brownman Electryc Trio, the Snaggle keyboardist sitting in with Modus, and the Electryc Trio drummer playing with Snaggle, making this a UNIQUE offering of exploratory, cross-pollinated electric-jazz, the likes of which Toronto has never seen before.
